Anti-Life Music Vol #3

Nine more tracks of vitriol.

1. Dalek - 3:46 (From a Rarities disk they put out a while back. The last line of the song sums it all up nicely)

2. Burnt Cross - Hatred Of The Holy (I'm sure I have this on a 45 somewhere, but this version is off of the Carcass Of Humanity album. Unapologetic Punk.)

3. Gaza - Hell Crown (Off of there 2006 album, which has the honest title of 'I dont care where I go when I die'. I would bath in this music)

4. Witchcraft - I See A Man (My favourite track off of 'Firewood'. Each note just seethes with woe and burden. Perfect music)

5. Today Is The Day - Christianized Magic (Sadness Will Prevail [X]. Few bands or artists are able to create as uncomfortable music as TITD and not be cast aside. Deep, philisophic and thought provoking.)

6. Spiritus Mortis - When The Wind Howled With a Human Voice (Albert Witchfinder of Rev Biz fame, took over vocals on 'The God Behind The God' for the return or SM. A must for anyone left with a void where once was Reverend Bizarre)

7. Gnaw Their Tongues - My Orifices Await Ravaging (This is not music. Its Art.)

8. Haust - Ride The Relapse (Title track from their Debut of these Norse Punks. Raw as fuck is the only way to describe it. Best lyric "I hate You. I hurt, myself"....Fucking Genius!)

9. Carpathian Forest - Nostalgia (Slow grinder from 'Morbid Fascination Of Death'. Good Drone going on in this song)

Anti-Life Music Vol #2

Inspired by the string of bad luck I had today. 10 songs of disgust for life.

1. Cobalt - Stew Craven (Ghost track from the album Gin)

2. Coffins - The Frozen Styx (Japanese Death/Doom, taken from 2008 album 'Buried Death' - this track has that particular groove only Coffins can do. You really feel burdened by a weight)

3. Okkultokrati - Stench Of Life (From their 2010 album 'No Light For Mass' - Norse Hardcore Noise that marries the core of Punk & Doom perfectly. Dirty tones, and visceral anger, brilliant combination. Says what it does on the tin)

4. Facedowninshit - Fucked (From 2008 album 'NPON: Nothing Positive Only Negative' - Criminally underated noisy blues fused doom from the USA. I got this record as a hand-me-down from a friend. I have no idea why he didnt like it!)

5. The Howling Wind - Stealth Eugenics (Another Ryan Lipynsky project. This is form their 2007 debut 'Pestilence & Peril'. Minimal, lo-fi, and all kinds of sinister. Dont play to unborn children.)

6. Jucifer - The Mountain (Off of 'L'Autrichienne' from 2008. I love this band. Always pushing the bounderies of what is expected from music. This is the song that sold this album for me. Heavy down-tempo riffs and punishing drums, with a faint glimmer of hope...while it slowly drifts away.)

7. Sperm Of Antichrist - Born Of The Blighted Angel (Off of their Demo, before they changed their name to Void Meditation Cult. This songs stands out on this demo, and clearly influenced their current direction. Fucking Hate!)

8. Lucifer Was - Darkness (Written in 1971, recorded in 2001. What a special band. Cryogenically frozen in time. Original Doomy Prog, that once again demonstrates the cross pollination, and influences of heavy music. I miss the old days.)

9. Dragged Into Sunlight - Hatred For Mankind (2009 album of the same name. What can I say about this....Its violent, bitter, and so fucking necro. Liverpool must be a fucked up place.)

10. Tomahawk - Long, Long, Weary Day (Final song on their last album. Most people dont seem to treat every track on an album as a legitimate song. I do. This summed it all up. Sit back. Relax. Roll up a smoke. Make a new plan.)

Anti-Life Music Vol #1

15 tracks of bitter, hateful, shit.

A mix tape I compiled where I try and showcase music that is distinctly anti-music. I took a page out of the Black Metal philosophy book for this one. Original Black Metal of the late 80s to early 90s was not about agreeable or listenable music. The structure, movements and tones were designed to strike a chord of raw, visceral rebellion. Total opposition for all things. Hence the hyper Satanic imagery, under produced (Necro) sound, and primitive structure. Remember, BM came out in a time when excess in culture was peaking yet again. Punks early caveman roots were dead, and had morphed into several splinter groups. Thrash, New Wave, and Goth, to name a few of the big sellers. However, like all things, BM was crushed by popularity and diluted into the mainstream rock canon. Luckily though, we are now sitting at the dawn of a new movement in music and culture. Each new wave that precedes its originators creates a commercial side, and an underground side. And each splintering goes to further extremes. For example, if you took a piece of popular music from the 40s and compared it to pop music of today, it becomes quite clear what is happening. Commercialism equates to efficiency. Not simply with regards to greater means of delivery, but also with the cultural "product" itself. In the 40s, if you wanted to enjoy a piece of music you would still have to go and fork out hard earned money for a record, or radio to listen to your favourite tunes. A person appreciated the music. It was all the blood sweat and tears, all the hours spent away from your loved ones in the factory, office, diner, where ever. And this was reflected in the kind of products the consumer would get. Music that was actually thought through, dwelled upon and explored. It may have been commercial, and surely the youth did not appreciate it, but in hindsight, I now see, we were getting small glimpses of art from the years before. If only we had taken the time to apreciate it a little more. As I said though, there was always 2 sides to the story. The mainsteam and the underground. The youth would always search for their own sound, and would inevitably proliferate the coming of a new style of play. And much like commercial music has focus on making its products more efficient and easily digestable in order to get a quick buck, we have the underground that has stepped further, and further into dark realms of obscurity. But where will it end? Is it the mainstream that forces the underground into shadowed corners, or does the mainstream react to the deeper artistic developments of counter-culture? Something to think about perhaps. So I leave you with this chunk of solid 'Anti-ness' to 'enjoy'.
